In February of 1999 the Springfield Dominican Sisters granted the seed monies to form M.E.R.C. Y. Communities, Inc. They continue to support the agency's mission through grants and contributed services of their membership.

Springfield Housing Authority

In December of 1999 the Springfield Housing Authority and M.E.R.C.Y. Communities entered into an agreement whereby M.E.R.C. Y. would lease from SHA a twelve-unit apartment building, which would serve as its transitional living facility.

Since 2001 M.E.R.C. Y. Communities has been a certified United Way agency. The agency's transitional living and permanent supportive housing programs (a pilot project in the 2005 campaign) are funded under their Fostering Independence field of service.

In May of 2006 RUMC's Family Outreach team entered into a partnership with M.E.R.C. Y Communities to provide transitional housing and supportive services, including mentoring for a homeless mom and her children.
