Ways to Volunteer

MERCY has several opportunities for you to get involved to help the homeless in our community.

We can always use people who are willing to give their time and talents to help us serve our program participants.

Learning Sessions: Teach A Life Skill

Once a week on Tuesday evenings from 4:45 to 6:15 pm, MERCY hosts various speakers, activities, demonstrations, videos, educators and community volunteers to provide small learning sessions centered on the pillars of self-sufficiency:  Housing, Parenting, Budgeting and Life Skills.

If you have a talent, interest, hobby or information that would be beneficial and would like to present to our group, please let us know! Learning Sessions are usually no more that 10-15 clients at one time.

Monitors

We could use your help on Tuesday evenings from 4:45 to 6:15 pm to monitor the client's children during our Learning Sessions for the Parents. This could involve reading a book aloud, helping an older child with the internet or computer games or just playing with blocks with the younger ones. There is always a MERCY employee present in the playrooms.

Internship Opportunities Available

We would love to talk to you about an internship with MERCY Communities! Please call (217) 744-1126 for more information.

Clean-Up

Church groups, school groups, Clubs, organizations and individuals donate their time in the Spring and Fall to help us clean up yards, rake, paint, pull weeds and even clean up homes and apartments for our incoming clients. We appreciate every single volunteer!
